- A Completed and Signed Visa Application Form – The form can be downloaded at the German Embassy’s website in Nigeria.
- Proof of Funds can be bank statements, pay slips, or an employer letter. You must show sufficient funds to meet your expenses while in Germany.
- Travel Itinerary – You must include specific details about your vacation arrangements or travel plans, such as airplane, hotel, and tour reservations.
- Medical Insurance – You will be required to show proof of medical insurance for the duration of your stay in Germany.
- Proof of Accommodation – You must show proof of your accommodation arrangements while in Germany, which might be in the form of hotel reservations or an invitation letter from the host.
Other requirements may include the following:
- An introduction letter from your employer or school if you are traveling for work or study.

- Visit the German embassy website.
- Select the correct visa type.
- Choose an appointment date with the embassy/consulate.
- Prepare the Required Documents.
- Pay the visa fee.
- Pay your fees
- Visit the German Embassy for an interview.
- Wait for a decision on your Passport.
- Collect your Passport.
- Step 1 – Visit the German embassy website – Visit the German Embassy online appointment system website for Nigeria. You should select “Continue” from the drop-down menu under the “Schengen Visa,” “Short Stay Visa,” or “Visa” section. You may begin filling out the appointment form without having to create an account.
- Step 2 – Select the correct visa type – Choose the type of visa that you should choose according to the purpose of your trip to Germany. You should choose the “Schengen” option.
- Step 3 – Choose an appointment date – You will then be presented with a calendar from which you may choose an appointment date. To select a date with an available appointment, you must scroll to the right. Continue looking until you find one.
- Step 4 – Prepare the required documents – You must gather all required documents for the visa application, such as your Passport, identity photos, application form, and so forth. I have listed a couple of the required documents above.
- Step 5 – Pay your fees – You will pay your visa fees at this stage. This must be paid in Naira at the German Embassy, and you must pay by cash.
- Step 6 – Visit the German Embassy for an interview – Appear for the interview at the Embassy and try to arrive 30 minutes or so before your appointment. Remember that your biometric information, such as fingerprints and photographs, will be taken.
- Step 7 – Wait for a decision on your Passport – Wait for your Passport to be approved by the embassy official. It generally takes 14 working days to decide upon.
- Step 8 – Collect your Passport – Finally, If your visa is approved – you will get a decision that it’s approved. If rejected, you will get an explanation as to the reasons for denial.
How long does German visa processing take in Nigeria?
The processing time for a German visa from Nigeria varies based on the season or timing and the volume of applications received. In general, it can take the Embassy 14-20 days to grant a valid visa.
Keep in mind that the Embassy will most likely delay or reject your visa if your application needs to be completed or contains errors.
