The Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) has issued a stern warning to Nigerian travellers that their United States visas remain vulnerable to revocation even after successful entry into American territory if they breach immigration protocols or engage in activities inconsistent with their stated travel purpose.
National Public Relations Officer of NCS, Abdullahi Maiwada, disclosed this development in an official statement, emphasizing that US authorities maintain rigorous surveillance of visa holders throughout their stay in the country.
Continuous Security Monitoring
According to Maiwada, the security vetting process for visa applicants extends far beyond the initial approval and entry stages. “Security vetting for visa applicants does not end upon entry into the United States. U.S. authorities will continuously monitor the activities of visa holders, and visas can be revoked if holders are found to have violated US immigration protocols, import/export guidelines, and other laws,” the statement revealed.
The warning comes amid growing concerns from the US government regarding the misuse of entry visas by some Nigerian nationals who engage in activities that contradict their declared travel intentions and visa classifications.

Financial Declaration Requirements
The NCS spokesman reminded Nigerian travellers of the mandatory requirement to declare excess cash exceeding $10,000 or its equivalent at exit and entry points. He also stressed the importance of ensuring prohibited items are excluded from their baggage to avoid complications.
Preventing Expanded Visa Ban
Maiwada assured that the Nigerian Customs Service is actively collaborating with the US Mission in Abuja to ensure Nigeria meets all necessary criteria to avoid inclusion in an expanded visa ban that could restrict legitimate travel opportunities for law-abiding citizens.
“Passengers are encouraged to be law-abiding citizens and maintain good conduct within and outside Nigeria. Intending passengers to the United States should understand that fraud committed in any jurisdiction will attract legal consequences under both U.S. and Nigerian laws,” he stated.
Birth Tourism Crackdown
This development coincides with recent US government measures to combat birth tourism, where foreign nationals utilize tourist visas primarily to give birth in America, automatically securing US citizenship for their children. The US has made it clear that such practices are prohibited and could result in visa denial.
The American authorities have emphasized that visa applicants must demonstrate honesty regarding their travel purpose, warning that misrepresentation carries long-term immigration consequences.
While visas issued before July 8, 2025, remain valid under their original terms and conditions, the new policy is expected to significantly impact future travellers, particularly those dependent on multiple-entry permits for business, educational, or tourism purposes.
The Nigerian Customs Service continues to work closely with US authorities to maintain Nigeria’s standing in international travel relations while ensuring citizens understand their responsibilities when travelling abroad.
