What documents do I need to apply for an Australian visa?
When applying for an Australian visa in Nigeria, you must provide some essential documents to prove your identity, financial status, and travel plans. These supporting documents vary based on the type of visa; however, they usually include the following:
- A valid Nigerian Passport – with at least 6 months of remaining validity
- Passport-type photograph
- Photocopies of the passport and ID card
- Proof of status
- Itinerary
- Medical check report
- Bank Statement
- Educational documents (For Study permit)
- Employment Letter
- Proof of accommodation or Hotel Reservations
In addition to the above documents, you will need to provide your biometrics (fingerprints and a digital photograph) unless you have been exempted. Where can I do biometrics for an Australian visa in Nigeria?
You can do your biometrics at any of the Australian visa application centers in Lagos or Abuja. In other words, you have to go in person and to the Australian Visa Application Centres in Lagos or Abuja to lodge your visa application and provide your biometrics at the same time.
If you submit your application by mail or courier, you will be sent a letter requiring you and any of your dependant applicants to attend one of the Visa Application Centres to provide your biometrics, before the application can be finalized.

In general, it can take the Embassy 14-30 days to grant a valid visa. For an Australian visitor visa, it can take up to 26 days to process it. Business visa takes up to 18 days to process. A student visa can take between 3 – 6 months.
Keep in mind that the Embassy will most likely delay or reject your visa if your application needs to be completed or contains errors.
